Doug Folan

Expertise – learning and development, performance management, quality improvement, risk and project management

I have worked in learning and development for the last 20 years, across a range of sectors and organisations, from government to private companies, charities, sports and the arts. I have led on the transformation of services for a local authority bringing teams together and leading managers to influence change. Working with a large organisation I have developed a self evaluation and improvement toolkit to support the organisation in its development and to help its staff and stakeholders achieve their strategic goals. I have been responsible for leadership and management in a variety of public sector roles, including on accredited programmes. As a result of this work I have been approached by a number of different organisations to contribute to their leadership and improvement programmes. I am a member of the Institute of Leadership and Management.

I have strategic leadership experience of bringing teams together, managing people and organisational improvement in large organisations as well as working with small teams in the public and private sectors. I am currently facilitating a leadership programme for Chief Executive Officers and board directors of sports organisations across Scotland and I am working with an International organisation developing their leadership capability to meet their organisational objectives and provide their new leaders with skills and knowledge to help them lead their teams.

I have created a range of leadership and improvement programmes that have been adopted by other organisations -‘Knowing the business’, ‘Leading for improvement’ and ‘Towards an excellent service’. I have also been successful in writing national materials for senior leaders in education to support their own and their teams development.

I have significant experience of writing and leading bespoke programmes in learning and team organisation. I have delivered workshops and facilitated groups including the development of various ‘action learning sets’ across the UK. In addition to these I have worked with senior leaders in voluntary organisations providing confidential mentoring support as well as working with emerging leaders on a one to one coaching programme.
